Step 1: Gun coating guidelines, what you need to know.
Here are some guidelines to help you prepare your parts for coating and to make sure that the process goes as smoothly as possible.
We can coat steel, stainless steel, titanium alloy. We do not coat aluminum, cheap cast parts, pot metal, brazed parts, springs, plastic or other non-metallic parts. Contact us if you have questions.
We coat almost any firearm that is currently in production, pistols, AR’s, shotguns, hunting rifles, etc. We do not coat relics or guns with components that cannot be easily replaced. In other words, don’t send us your revolutionary war musket. If it were lost or damaged we would both not be happy.
Disassemble for coating
All guns or component assemblies must be COMPLETELY disassembled for coating. This means all rivets, pins, bushings, screws, adjustable sights, springs, etc. must be separated. If you don’t want a part coated, don’t send it to us. Don’t forget internal components like the plastic Firing Pin Channel Liner inside your Glock slide.
TiN is a conformal coating that is less than 5 microns thick. TiN will not fill voids, scratches, pits or other imperfections in the surface of a part. All parts must be stripped of any coatings prior to arrival and the surface finish must be exactly how you would like. If you give us high polish, you will get high polish back. If you send us a rough, sand blasted surface, that is how it will look after coating. We offer coating removal and finishing services on select components and firearms. We offer the following surface preparation alternatives at Titanium Gun:
- High polish for Desert Eagles only. (High polish to almost a mirror finish.)
- Tiger stripe for Desert Eagles only. (We can also do other surface finish patterns.)
- “Burnished” finished for all makes. (A smooth, but not shiny, finish. This is the preferred finish on Glock components)
- Sand blasted finish for all makes. (A rough surface used in limited applications)
Call us to discuss your needs.
California DOJ paperwork
If you are sending you firearm components directly to us as an individual, you do not need to complete the DOJ papaerwork. FFL holders sending us serialized frames or receivers must obtain the DOJ “Firearms Shipment Approval”. Approval is a simple online process. The website is located here: http://oag.ca.gov/firearms/cflcoverview Once again, DOJ paperwork for components such as barrels, triggers and the like is not required.
Magnum Research Desert Eagle* Pistols
We offer full surface preparation for DE pistols that come to us in black oxide or the new stainless steel version. We process hundreds of DE pistols each month. We do not strip nickel, chrome or any other plating, only black oxide. The gun will need to be completely disassembled when shipped to us, but we will remove the black oxide, high polish all components and coat with TiN. For an additional charge we will “tiger stripe” your firearm as well. Do you have a custom pattern you want on your firearm? Call us to discuss.
We offer full surface preparation for Glock pistols that come to us with the factory finish. The gun will need to be completely disassembled when shipped to us, but we will remove the factory finish on all components and coat with TiN. For Glock components the finish is a “burnished” finish, smooth but not high polish. We do not process the plastic frame.
